Under the background of China’s further implementing the strategy of innovation-driven development and the strategic arrangements of Healthy China 2030:, medical and health field in China has entered the stage of leaping development, while continuous progress in the research of life sciences and medicine provides an important support for realization of innovative development in this field. Among them, the state-of-the-art science and technology represented by genetic technology and cell technology have exerted far-reaching effects on the development of life sciences and medicine industry. A great number of top-class and excellent scientists have made outstanding contributions to the innovation and progress of life sciences, while more and more young scientists begin demonstrating their talents in the academic world.
For this reason, “VCANBIO Award for Biosciences and Medicine”, a significant and authoritative award in the life sciences and medicine field of China, is jointly presented by University of Chinese Academy of Science, VCANBIO CELL & GENE ENGINEERING CORP., LTD and Shenzhen VCANBIO Bio-treatment Foundation to push forward the scientific research, technological innovation and continuous development in the life sciences and medicine field of China, and facilitate the industrial development and application of life sciences innovation achievements. Hosted by the Medical School of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, this award intends to commend the Chinese and foreign outstanding scientists, scholars and innovation talents with potentials, which have achieved innovation achievements and breakthroughs in the life sciences and medicine field.
On December 19, 2016, the first VCANBIO Award for Biosciences and Medicine Ceremony and International Forum on Precision Medicine was successfully held in Beijing. Prizes were commended to 13 Chinese and foreign scientists for their outstanding achievements and excellent contributions in the field of life science, including Academician J. Craig Venter, founder and president of J. Craig Venter Institute in the United States, and leading expert of Human Genome Project, Academician Saijuan Chen, executive director of Shanghai Hematology Research Center, Rui-jin Hospital, Medical School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Professor Yuankai Shi, deputy director of Tumor Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. This important moment was jointly cerebrated by more than 300 experts, scholars and industry fellows from domestic and overseas scientific research institutes and universities, medical institutions and life sciences and medicine field.
The successful presentation of the First VCANBIO Award for Biosciences and Medicine Ceremony had played an active role in promoting the development of life sciences industry and its talent innovation in China. The award had become one of the most authoritative and influential awards in the life sciences field of China and played an important part in pushing forward the development of life sciences in China and even the world.
To further expand the influence of this award, “2017 VCANBIO Award for Biosciences and Medicine” will be improved on the basis of the previous success to propel the development and progress of life sciences industry in China and even the world, and motivate more young scientists to make continuous innovations and breakthroughs, so as to benefit and serve the health of human beings.
